corban & blair exhibition (2025)
Corban & Blair Window Gallery, 2 Victoria Street, Lewisham, is hosting two bodies of work by Jane in February 2025. In these two related series – Flight and Redeeming Love – Jane has used hand-cut appropriated, colonial images of vulnerable indigenous birds and animals.
In Flight, a series of six archival prints, she has created a collage of whitewashed lantana roots (recreating the pattern of an historic wall paper from Rouse Hill Estate). This pattern is populated by vulnerable birds from NSW. (Each print is one of a limited edition of 3, and comes with a certificate of authenticity and a list of the birds depicted and their status.)
In the framed from Redeeming Love, Jane has juxtaposed colonial images of vulnerable species with her own photographs of her immediate environment on the coast of traditional Gadigal Lands. This was done to make the loss of species feel more immediate and personal to her, and hopefully, to others. The effect recalls museum dioramas.
