frolic freeze (2020)

Muslin, timber, ochre, ice, perspex
Dimensions variable
Exhibition at Articulate Project Space, Leichhardt, NSW.
This work was based on a scale replica of a Greek temple. With a floor plan of conventional proportions, it symbolises the political system of democracy that originated in ancient Greece but has been adapted to many countries, including Australia. Forced to walk through the partial ‘temple’ to enter the exhibition, visitors are prompted to contemplate the gallery as a sacred and political space.  The ice capital, which together with ochre circles marks the re-imagined temple space, melts during the opening and early days of the exhibition suggesting the impact of climate change that has occurred within this political landscape.
